Introduction to Sexual Health
According to the World Health Organisation, sexual health is defined as a state of physical, emotional, mental and social well-being in relation to sexuality; it is not merely the absence of disease, dysfunction or infirmity. - Sexual Medicine: is a medical specialty that deals with diagnosing, assessing and managing a wide number of issues related to sexuality and sexual functioning and it aims to help a person/couple achieve better sexual health outcomes.
- Psychosexual Therapy: Psychosexual therapy focuses on the experiences an individual and/or his or her partner(s) has with sexual function/dysfunction, commonly referred to as sexual difficulties (e.g. erectile dysfunction, premature/delayed ejaculation, vaginismus, loss of libido, desire discrepancy, relationship issues that affect sex life, fear of sex, lack of confidence, sexual boredom and compulsive behaviours). Psychosexual therapy can be offered to individuals (who don't have a partner or partner not willing to undergo therapy) or couples .

Services
- Ask the expert
In a country where formal sex education is not readily available, many would have simple questions/doubts for which they don’t know where to find the correct answers. If you have one, then this is a much convenient and instant way to get the answers that you have long been waiting for. All you need to do is to post your question on the site and you will receive an answer within a reasonable time. Every effort will be made to get back to you within 5 days. When you post your question, DO NOT provide any personally identifiable details (mobile number, date of birth or address) as we want to ensure your privacy and confidentiality. You will be asked to provide your email ID for the experts to send their response. Simple, straightforward questions can be effectively answered using this mode.
This is a free service,
- Real-time Online Consultation [RTOC]
This option is best for those (single/couples] who have serious doubts/concerns/problems about their SEXUAL BEHAVIOURS & PREFERENCES [e.g. compulsive or problematic behaviours], SEXUAL HEALTH [discharge, ulcers, lumps/bumps] and SEXUAL FUNCTIONING (desire, erection, ejaculation, orgasm, pain, lack of confidence, not able to have sex]. You can choose this option after making the initial contact by posting a question (using the above option). RTOC will be offered through SKYPE with or without webcam (up to client’s comfort and preference). RTOC has its advantages (you don’t have to travel or find parking, no waiting time, less confronting and can consult at a time that is mutually convenient). On the other hand, it has some limitations (not able to interact face-to-face or get examined, if needed). Over the last 10 years, despite the limitations mentioned above, many clients have benefited from RTOC simply because the service was high accessible and acceptable. They were able to achieve the same outcomes as they would have achieved from a traditional face-to-face consultation with a health professional. Clients who require examination or need to seek input from other health professionals will be appropriately referred along with a management plan.
This is a free service,
- Blended consultation (Face-to-face & Real time Online Consultation)
For those who like to seek RTOC but strongly prefer to have either an initial or follow-up face-to-face consultation with a health professional in person, then we suggest this option. Blended consultation will combine the advantages of both the options (i.e. face-to-face & RTOC) and clients, in the past, have received a rich and fulfilling experience. A health practitioner at Bloom Hospital will conduct the initial consultation and will then organise the RTOC (depending on the nature of the issues) with the consultant. Following RTOC, the health practitioner at Bloom will perform the follow-ups and work in conjunction with the consultant to assess follow-up and progress. For those who don’t have or can’t access RTOC at home, can do so from the Bloom Hospital.

This is one of the commonest concerns a lot of patients have. Bloom assures you that all details/data collected from patients will be kept highly confidential. At times, details of a husband or a wife will not be shared with his/her spouse.
Examination will be done only on needs basis determined by the clinician. Female patients will be examined only by a female doctor/nurse.
It is strongly encouraged to bring all past medical records, including investigations, when you come to Bloom. If a test is done within a reasonable time frame and in an appropriate manner, then the same test will not be repeated. At times, it is important to repeat the same test before starting on treatment. The lead clinician will determine the need and will explain it.
While it is encouraged to do so, it is not a must. Sometimes, a person’s sexual problem could be secondary to his/her partner’s sexual problem.
In case of couple consultation, both partners will be consulted together. Then, each one will get a chance to consult the doctor separately. Selected information provided by one person will be kept confidential from his/her partner. If there is definitive need to disclose, it will be done in a professional way and with due consent.
No. All consultations do involve a brief education session but will be done only with scientific charts using iPad/electronic sources.
Bloom uses highly secured patient information software through which a legible report will be generated and given to you in paper or sent as an email attachment. Alternatively, patients can view their record by themselves through patient portal.
The lead clinician will discuss the various treatment options with you (individual/couple) depending on the problem. The main options are medications, behavioural modification, sexual counseling, psychosexual therapy or a mix of all or some. Whatever the modality, patients will be fully explained about the problem and what the management involves.
A minimum of 30 minutes will be spent for each patient as it takes time to collect good history and understand each patient and their concerns/problems. Counselling and psychosexual therapy does involve longer duration.
Yes, we have an in-house pharmacy and all the medications are available. Our pharmacists are trained enough to be comfortable and competent to dispense medications used for sexual problems and also make patients feel comfortable.
